The Humanitarian Technology Challenge (HTC) Workshop
Technologists Join Development and Health Experts in the Humanitarian Technology Challenge
The workshop will drive technological solutions to humanitarian aid challenges
We invite you to join the leading minds in technology and humanitarian causes in a workshop to further the development of solutions to three significant humanitarian challenges;
Reliable Electricity - The goal is to increase the availability of electric power for lighting and other electronic devices in resource-constrained environments. Important for education, communications, and economic development.
Data Connectivity of Rural District Health Offices - Sharing information and exchanging data among remote health clinics and providers with central health facilities and hospitals. This can improve access to treatment protocols, monitoring of health trends, and sharing results of treatments.
Individual ID Tied to Health Records - Keeping health records in the developing world is sporadic at best and tying them to treatment regimens and tracking the impact of them is sorely lacking. Important for ongoing treatment of patients, especially migrants, and those with chronic diseases.
This workshop follows our June conference where the participants ratified the Challenge descriptions and launched the Solution Development Process.
The HTC, a joint initiative led by the IEEE, the United Nations Foundation and Vodafone Foundation Technology Partnership- is a dynamic, new endeavor bringing together development, health and technology experts.

Technology has the potential to transform the way we address some of the world’s toughest challenges. The rapid growth of new and lower-cost technologies creates a fertile opportunity for technological innovation in the service of humanity. This workshop will be an opportunity to develop solutions that can make the difference in providing better, more effective aid to those who need it most.
